How do you choose a business name?

Firstly, ensure you understand the difference between a business name, a company name, a trading name and a trade mark.  Not sure? https://asic.gov.au/for-business/registering-a-business-name/before-you-register-a-business-name/trading-names/the-difference-between-a-trading-name-business-name-and-company-name/

Six tips to help you:

  • Consider the image and values you want your business to portray and what is unique about it.
  • Consider how a potential customer would search for the type of products or services that you provide.
  • Does your proposed business name describe what you do and is it meaningful to your customers?
  • Is it memorable, distinctive, easy to spell and not open to misinterpretation?
  • Does it align or work with your domain name, trademark, brand, etc?
  • Is it scalable? Ensure that the name won’t be a problem if you relocate, expand your products or services, or pivot into other areas.
